Relationships, Real Estate, Life

Positive. Proactive. Progressive

June 7, 2019

Invest is a useful euphemism. It means spend, of course, but implies something more. Spending with a purpose, with a higher expectation. I have had multiple conversations over the course of the last few weeks around investing versus spending and how you run your businesses.

There are some of us that like to lead with revenue and others that are seriously concerned about expenses and watch them like a hawk. In the end, both should be paid some attention. When you are the CEO of your real estate business it comes down to planning and executing, largely based on investment and return on that investment.

When you invest in real estate, the stock market, or a savings account you expect a certain rate of return on your money right?

Savings ac...

Hey, How are you?

This week is the last week of school for my kids. I am not believing that when Sarah graduates from 8th grade this week, I will have two kids in high school and Jay will turn 16 in August. Whoa? Where has the time gone? I was reminded this week of a video series I did on Facebook back when it was just your real friends on Facebook, 10 years ago when I was clearing out my "coffee cup cabinet." I had kept all these coffee cups because they had some significance when I received them only to find I never used them and they took up an entire shelf in our kitchen cabinet. I wanted to document them as I got rid of them for my sake and hopefully make some of my friends smile. It was 10 years ago!

Hard to believe the time has pa...

That was some crazy weather we had end of last week and into the weekend. Most of you know it kept me in Denver a full day longer than planned. It seems I have a knack for difficulty with travel. I was in Denver attending the Rehumanize conference put on by BombBomb. I was there with some of the most prominent video influencers in the real estate industry. Overriding takeaway from the conference is that personal video is rehumanizing. It puts you, the messenger, back into your messages.

One of the biggest issues I see in my office is quick text messages back and forth that lack context, voice inflection, hand movement, eye contact, etc. It leaves the recipient to decipher the text. Almost always it leads to conflict that may have...

Hey, Hello!

Our staff meetings have a component to them where we each have to state the number of hours we invested in professional development. I signed up for a conference this weekend because of the accountability and because I was so incredibly nervous about the whole thing.

It's a video conference held by my video recording method of choice Bombbomb. It's a quick two day turnaround. Why am I so nervous? I asked myself the same question. Seems us growing into something that gets recognized in the RE/MAX world and me being someone they have taken a liking to has placed me right into a very comfortable place. I learn a ton when I am around other successful people outside the brand and knowing this still took me two weeks to actually si...

I was reminded this week of a quote from Ross Perot "An entrepreneur is someone who is grateful for the progress that has been made and simultaneously dissatisfied with the rate they are making it." I was interviewed by Brooke Choate (referral agent and daughter of Teresa Choate-RMXBMT) for her entrepreneur class at Lamar. She is approaching graduation and the interview is a requirement for the class. I have to admit, I was a little nervous initially with the prospect of being a "businessman" she would want to interview. One of her professors is Jeff Dyson, who is a wonderful example of entrepreneurial success with M&D Supply Company. He was one of the first calls I made when I got into the RE/MAX business. I literally said to him "I h...

RE/MAX ONE closed 3,089 transaction sides and averaged 23 transactions per agent on 2018. This puts us #2 in the State of Texas and #286 for the United States for all real estate companies. This year's survey represents the most comprehensive collection of data assembled on the leaders of the residential brokerage industry. Numbers are documented by outside accounting firms and/or MLS reports. It took 1,992 transactions to be included in this year's REAL Trends 500, up from a minimum of 1,899 transactions a year ago. For the 9th consecutive year, RE/MAX had more brokerages qualify for the REAL Trends 500 than any other brand. Of the 1,757 participating U.S. brokerages that closed more than 500 transaction sides last year...

We had an "all hands" meeting yesterday to congratulate the amazing team that continues to help families at the highest level. We went over the market and the economy:

The residential real estate market has less inventory available to purchase than they started tracking the statistics 28 years ago. The unemployment rate is lower than it has been in that same time frame. Our area is a little different than most in that a 6.6% unemployment rate is considered "fully employed." We have many contract workers that work major construction jobs that go from job to job. That accounts for roughly 2% of that number. Our regional economic developers are tracking over $55 billion in projects that are potentially coming to this area (with half that n...
